The match was held in Chicago on Monday morning and Kolakovic’s men couldn’t earn a point.
Iran didn’t stun the spectators and lost the match in three straight sets (29-27, 25-20, 26-24).
Milad Ebadipour and Pourya Yali were the top scorers of Iran with 13 points each while USA’s Matt Anderson gained 18 points and had a great influence on their victory.
Many Iranians residing in USA had come to the stadium to support their national volleyball team and they did their best, however their preferred result was not achieved.
Iran no longer has a chance to advance to the next round of the competitions and will only play the next three matches for pride.
Iran will host Germany, Bulgaria and South Korea in Tehran in the final week of VNL.
“It was a tough game in all senses, but USA were better than us and I congratulate them for the victory. We did a lot of changes in the team because we have some players with injuries and we have some young players who we’d like to give an opportunity to show their quality. I think we were so close to taking one set, but we need experience to win one set against the USA. For that reason I am so unhappy, but thanks to the spectators here because they made a perfect atmosphere to play volleyball tonight,” said Iran’s coach Igor Kolakovic after the game, Volleymob reported.
